With the Action Plan, the government is taking the next step for improved management of Gs and Cs, which will lead to simplified administration, risk-based approaches and strengthened accountability.

Recipients and federal program administrators will see a reduction in the volume and complexity of reporting, monitoring and audit requirements.

Kasabonika and North Caribou Lake First Nations are two of the seven remote First Nations that received funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and Industry Canada's FedNor to build local cable plants and networks connecting all their buildings (homes and organizations) to their local headends. In Kasabonika and North Caribou Lake, the headend is the C-band satellite dish that is part of the Northern Indigenous Community Satellite Network (NICSN - http://smart.knet.ca/satellite).

KI lawyer says his clients very happy with ruling

The lawyer for six members of the Kitchenumaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation says his clients feel ''completely vindicated'' by Monday's ruling from Ontario's highest court. The written ruling from the Ontario Court of Appeal says there was no reason to 'bring down the hammer'' on aboriginal leaders who were jailed and fined after staging protests over mining disputes earlier this year.
