With the funding from the Indigenous Health Research Development Program (IHRDP), the Oshki-Pimache-O-Win Education & Training Institute is seeking a part-time Research Officer, in partnership with the Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research, Lakehead University. The proposed work schedule will be based on 3 days per week.
The IHRDP aims to increase capacity in Aboriginal health research in Ontario. Since 2003, research offices have been established at the University of Toronto, Six Nations Polytechnic in Ohsweken, and at McMaster University. A northern office is being opened at Oshki-Pimache-O-Win Education & Training Institute to increase access to research opportunities in aboriginal health matters by the Northern Aboriginal communities.
The successful applicant will:
· have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree
· have experience or demonstrated interest in community research and/or Aboriginal health
· have experience with website and listserv maintenance
· have experience with outreach activities to northern Aboriginal communities
· be familiar with:
o Knowledge Transfer, as it relates to Aboriginal health research
o Ethics related to Aboriginal health research
Experience working with Aboriginal people and knowledge of Aboriginal health issues is required. Also required is the ability to communicate in cultural terms familiar to Aboriginal people, adhere to cultural protocols and a basic understanding of an Aboriginal language is preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills within both Aboriginal and Western cultures.
