As the Chiefs of the First Nations across the Sioux Lookout Health Zone meet to discuss the challenges facing their communities this week in Thunder Bay, the Ontario government announces a probe into the misuse of OxyContin.

INAC's First Nations SchoolNet program evaluation visits Keewaytinook Okimakanak and NNEC

The summative evaluation of the First Nations SchoolNet is nearing completion. The final report is to be submitted to INAC officials by the middle of February.

This past week (February 4 and 5, 2009), the two principal authors of the evaluation report visited Keewaytinook Okimakanak's Kuhkenah Network (K-Net) to learn about its work as the Ontario Regional Management Organization.

Notice to Indian Residential School Survivors and Others

As you may already be aware, there is going to be a community meeting on February 13, 2009 (7pm to 9pm) at the Sunset Inn in Sioux Lookout on the topic of Truth and Reconciliation. We are honoured to have Ms. Aideen Nabigon, the Executive Director of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, as one of our guest speakers that evening.

Also attending is the Legacy of Hope Foundation, a national Aboriginal organization whose mandate reads:

Media and "think tank" attack First Nations using discredited hate literature

Racist literature being dressed up as an "academic" publication is now being used by mainstream media writers and other groups with their own agendas to once again attack First Nations. The book, "Disrobing the Aboriginal Industry" published by McGill Queen’s University Press, 2008 is now under attack by those who understand the real agenda behind this type of hate material.

Four reviews of this "book" need to be read to better understand what the mainstream media and others are doing as they present their agendas to the public.
