Legacy of Hope representatives joining Truth and Reconciliation member at Sioux Lookout session

Notice to Indian Residential School Survivors and Others

As you may already be aware, there is going to be a community meeting on February 13, 2009 (7pm to 9pm) at the Sunset Inn in Sioux Lookout on the topic of Truth and Reconciliation. We are honoured to have Ms. Aideen Nabigon, the Executive Director of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, as one of our guest speakers that evening.

Also attending is the Legacy of Hope Foundation, a national Aboriginal organization whose mandate reads:

“The Legacy of Hope Foundation is a national, charitable organization whose purpose is to educate and create awareness and understanding about the legacy of residential schools and the effects and intergenerational impacts on First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples and to continue to support the ongoing healing processes.”

The Legacy of Hope Foundation is strongly associated with Aboriginal Healing Foundation. You can visit their website at: www.legacyofhope.ca  and, for further information, you can go to www.wherearethechildren.ca to see the work it has done.

The Legacy of Hope is here primarily to record stories from survivors. They are also interested in hearing from others i.e. inter-generational survivors, former staff, clergy and interested citizens. Please note, the stories will be recorded and given to the TRUTH & RECONCILIATION COMMISSION.

This is essentially a chance to talk to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and tell your story.

They will be recording all day on Friday (13) and Saturday (14) at the Sunset Inn in Sioux Lookout. Support people will be available.

Unfortunately, travel assistance is not available.

If you wish to tell your story, or need further information, please contact me.
