Support for First Nation and Métis Communities in Green Energy Development - McGuinty Government Initiatives Will Create Green Jobs, Spur Economic Development

Ontario is launching two new programs for First Nations and Métis communities interested in developing and owning renewable energy facilities, such as wind, solar and hydroelectric. These initiatives will create jobs and stimulate economic development as well as offer a guaranteed and sustained long term revenue stream.

The Government of Canada Announces the Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy 

OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- 09/04/09 -- The Government of Canada announced its newest commitment to Aboriginal people through the Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ASETS). The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, made the announcement today.

Government Of Canada Delivers Strong Investment For Firefighting To 93 Ontario First Nations

OTTAWA, ONTARIO - Sept. 2, 2009 - The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Metis and non-Status Indians, today announced $3.1 million in funding for the purchase of fire trucks, firefighting equipment, and related training for Ontario First Nations.

Two Feathers Forest Products Receives Federal Government Funding

(Two Feathers Forest Products LP, Ontario, Sept.1, 2009) Eagle Lake First Nation received $829,000 from the recent Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) announcement. This will support the Two Feathers Forest Products LP (TFFP) value added initiative. TFFP is a partnership involving Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, Pikangikum First Nation, Eagle Lake First Nation and Finnish based Wood Tech Group.

Teacher Orientation, August/September 2009

From August 31st to September 3rd, new and returning KiHS teachers met in Balmertown for 4 days of training  for the 2009-10 school year.  These meetings are designed to inform teachers about how KiHS functions as an online high school, to review curriculum changes, and to to give all staff an opportunity to get to know one another.
