From August 31st to September 3rd, new and returning KiHS teachers met in Balmertown for 4 days of training for the 2009-10 school year. These meetings are designed to inform teachers about how KiHS functions as an online high school, to review curriculum changes, and to to give all staff an opportunity to get to know one another.
Prior to the orientation week, new teachers were able to complete an online Teacher Handbook Course, using the same platform students use for their courses. That platform, MoodleFN, is the main way students and teachers interact in the online environment. The other way is Elluminate, which is a live interactive session that teachers host each week, enabling students to ask questions and get more information about specific lessons.
With classrooms spread over 12 northern communities, getting to know eachother is always an important focus of the KiHS Orientation. This year was no different as teachers were treated to an evening pontoon boat tour ofRed Lake. For those who are new to this part of the country, this outing was the highlight of a very intensive four-day orientation.
