Broad support for Mushkegowuk Resolution to Fix Provincial Mining Act
Today seven leading conservation and environmental groups added their resounding support for the mining resolution made recently by Mushkegowuk Council First Nations in Northern Ontario.

FREDERICTON - First Nations leaders in Atlantic Canada are considering major reforms to how bands are governed.
The reforms would include extending the term of service for band chiefs from two years to four, and holding elections on a set date across all bands.
This week (Dec 15-18), Dr. Alice Eriks-Brophy and her assistant are visiting the Muskrat Dam First Nation Headstart program to conduct speech and language assessments along with hearing assessments with all the children participating in the local program.
Last week, Dr. Eriks-Brophy was in Deer Lake First Nation providing the same service for the children attending their local Headstart program.

The federal government is launching an online pre-budget consultation today. The online form provides an opportunity to rank your own economic stimulus idea and highlight the areas you want to see investments made to support the Canadian economy. The AFN's call for a First Nation economic stimulus package is not listed in the priorities but everyone is still invited to make it their number 1 priority for government investment when you complete the Online Pre-Budget Consultations (see below for the link).

Poznan, Poland - A new international assessment of countries' performance in fighting climate change has placed Canada second last (56th of 57) among the world's biggest emitters of greenhouse gases. In the 2007 edition, Canada placed 53rd of the 56 countries assessed.
