As part of Ontario's continued efforts to enhance cooperation, and to build strong relationships with Aboriginal people based on mutual respect, Premier Dalton McGuinty has asked the Government of Canada to reconsider its position on the United Nations' Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Ottawa - Dec. 15 - A report released by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) falls far short of addressing Aboriginal students' needs. The report recommended maintaining current levels of federal funding for Aboriginal post-secondary education and to shut Aboriginal communities out of the decision-making process.

Truth and Reconciliation Canada announces details for first National Event

Toronto - The Honourable Justice Murray Sinclair, Chair of Truth and Reconciliation Canada (TRC), with Commissioners Marie Wilson and Chief Wilton Littlechild, today announced that the TRC’s first national event will commence in Winnipeg on June 15, 2010. It will run to June 19, 2010. The event will take place at the Forks, an historical gathering place for Aboriginal people.
