National Aboriginal Role Model Program: Role Model Nomination Call

Ottawa, ON (November 28, 2007) —– The National Aboriginal Health Organization (NAHO) is once again searching for Canada’s best and brightest Aboriginal youth for nomination to the 2008-09 National Aboriginal Role Model Program (NARMP).

The program, which has been organized by NAHO for the past four years, aims to highlight the accomplishments of Inuit, First Nations and Métis youth aged 13 to 30. The program’s theme is “Lead Your Way!”

An international gathering hosted by the Asian office of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is being held in the remote, fly-in community of Bario this week. Visit http://www.ebario.com to learn more about this special community located in Malaysia.

Dec. 3 2007 - About 10,000 delegates from nearly 190 countries are in Bali today for a massive UN conference on climate change. The focus of the conference is to begin negotiations on a pact to replace the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012.

There was one real surprise in yesterday's Speech from the Throne at Queen's Park: the section on the province's native peoples.

"The government seeks to forge a stronger, more positive relationship with Ontario's First Nations," said the speech.

KO team presents programs at Circle of Light 2007 conference in Toronto

Fernando Oliveira, G7-G8 Program Coordinator and Brian Beaton, K-Net Coordinator were at the Kuhkenah Network display at INAC and the Ministry of Education's conference - "Circle of Light 2007" in Toronto on November 27 and 28.

As well, Darrin Potter, Principal of KIHS along with two KIHS teachers, Linda Johnson (Weagamow) and Kevin Dempsey (Poplar Hill) attended this event and answered questions at the First Nations SchoolNet booth.
