Yellowbird big winner at Aboriginal Music Awards
November 30, 2007 - Country star Shane Yellowbird was the big winner at the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards Friday night, taking home three prizes including best male artist. Click here to visit the CAMA homepage.
Yellowbird, from Hobbema, Alta., near Edmonton, also won best country album and album of the year honours for his Life Is Calling My Name.
Shane Yellowbird has been going from strength to strength with his successful album Life Is Calling My Name.
(Shane Yellowbird) The Aboriginal Music Awards were given out in 28 categories in a ceremony at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.
Yellowbird, who had a No. 1 country hit with his song Pickup Truck, won the rising star award at the Canadian Country Music Awards in September and a further three prizes at the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards in Winnipeg earlier this month.
Saskatchewan's Donny Parenteau, who tied Yellowbird with five nominations going into the ceremony, took home two awards.
He won for best song or single and for best producer and engineer for Father Time.
Northern Cree, an Alberta-based group of drummers and singers, was also a double winner, in the categories of best hand drum album for Long Winter Nights and best powwow contemporary album for Stay Red.
Other winners included Manitoba artist Tracy Bone for best female artist and Vancouver trio M'Girl for best group or duo.
