Eagle Lake First Nation is working with a number of different partners to host a Residential School/Family Wellness Gathering scheduled for July 1 to 4, 2004 on their famous camping grounds on the shore of Eagle Lake.
Everyone is welcomed at this important event, as are financial contributions to ensure the gathering is a success for everyone attending.
An important part of the gathering is the youth day and daily youth sessions for learning and sharing with the youth. Workshop leaders and speakers are well known facilitators who will help make this special event another strong step in the healing process required to address First Nation, family and personal issues created by the residential school system. Friday, May 14th, 2004 was a day to remember for some Kasabonika Lake FN high school students from Chief Simeon McKay Memorial Education Centre. They met with and presented gifts to Minister Rick Bartolucci, his Parliamentary Assistant, Bill Mauro MPP-Thunder Bay/Atikokan, ADM John Gammon, and their Policy Advisors and Assistants.
Minister Bartolucci had a brief meeting with Chief Gordon Anderson, Deputy Chief Eno H. Anderson, Council and Elders in the School Gym on issues of importance to the Kasabonika Lake FN and as they relate to the programs, policies, and objectives of the Ministry of Northern Development & Mines.
The Ministerial entourage looked stunning in their beaded leather vests and medicine necklaces as they departed for Webequie First Nation with additional gifts of dreamcatchers, moccasins, and gauntlets.
A commitment to entrench communication strategies, consultations, and full consideration of a Far North Resource Development Council was achieved, in addition to further visits.

RECOMMENDATION 1: Making Broadband a National Priority
Deploying broadband networks, developing broadband services, and achieving affordable broadband access for all Canadians should be national priorities.
As of April 20, 2004, we have had a lot of visitors check out our website. The website has been up and running since April 5, 2004 when a bunch of Eabamet Lakers were involved in a website development training workshop. Thanks to our trainer, J. F. and K-Net.
I will be updating the website on a regular basis with the help of some computer experts in the community.
Come and check out our website anytime you're browsing the internet! Check it out at http://eabametoong.firstnation.ca
Slate Falls, Muskrat Dam and Koocheching First Nations, working with the Windigo First Nations Council, learned last week that they have been approved to develop a broadband connectivity solution in each of their communities. Under Industry Canada's Broadband for Rural and Northern Development (BRAND)program and FedNor, Slate Falls will be expanding their telephone system to network all the buildings in the community. Muskrat Dam will be constructing a satellite earth station to provide broadband connections throughout their community. Koocheching is planning to construct a broadband radio connection over to Sandy Lake to deliver broadband connections and services in their community.
