The Navigable Waterways Protection Act proposed amendments are still bundled within the recent budget. It appears that Parliament and our MPs will be voting to accept this budget act this week and along with it, the proposed changes to t eh NWPA.
Some of the possible impacts of these proposed changes on First Nations include:
A team of researchers working out of Simon Fraser University is now completing its first year of a five year research initiative that will hopefully lead to a better understanding about the impact of broadband internet access in rural and remotes communities.

The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) invited Health Directors from across the Sioux Lookout Health Zone to come together to share and learn about e-health services and applications. The goal of the workshop was to provide direction to SLFNHA in the development of a framework to address regional e-health initiatives and support systems.

VANCOUVER - The Province is providing another $8.3 million in funding to help bridge the digital divide for British Columbia First Nations, announced Labour and Citizens' Services Minister Iain Black today. The funding will be used toward First Nations connectivity to open up social and economic opportunities for rural and remote First Nations communities.
For the fourth year in a row the students at Eel Ground First Nation are being challenged to produce another award winning play about an important social issue challenging all communities across the country. The former principal of the school is now teaching in China. He is using the plays produced in previous years to support the Chinese students at his new school to learn about producing plays about these types of issues (see his message below the following newspaper article) ...
