Native Women's Association of Canada supports new funding for missing and murdered Aboriginal women

Ottawa, ON (October 29, 2010) – Today has marked the much anticipated announcement of $10 million in federal funding dedicated to addressing missing and murdered Aboriginal women in Canada. Minister of State (Status of Women), Rona Ambrose, was joined by Elizabeth Bastien of the Native Women’s Association of Canada, Police Chief Jim Chu of the Vancouver Police Department, and others to make the announcement in Vancouver, BC.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart and the Ontario Government Announce Partnership to Help First Nation Youth in the North

TORONTO, Oct. 28 /CNW/ - A new partnership between Canadian Tire Jumpstart and the Ontario government will build self-esteem and confidence for First Nation youth through a new sport and recreation program.

Pikangikum First Nation launched its community cellular service last week.

Working with Keewaytinook Mobile (http://mobile.knet.ca), Pikangikum First Nation provided the land and facilities to host the construction of a communications tower and Lemko base station at the local IT/Telecom building. Dryden Municipal Telephone Service (DMTS) was contracted by KM to do the construction work for the site.

In the first week alone, the new mobile service gained extreme poplularity with over 200 phones sold.
