First Nations leaders consider band reform - Changes could include extended chiefs' terms, fixed election dates

FREDERICTON - First Nations leaders in Atlantic Canada are considering major reforms to how bands are governed.

The reforms would include extending the term of service for band chiefs from two years to four, and holding elections on a set date across all bands.

UofT speech and language pathologist traveling to Deer Lake and Muskrat Dam First Nations

This week (Dec 15-18), Dr. Alice Eriks-Brophy and her assistant are visiting the Muskrat Dam First Nation Headstart program to conduct speech and language assessments along with hearing assessments with all the children participating in the local program.

Last week, Dr. Eriks-Brophy was in Deer Lake First Nation providing the same service for the children attending their local Headstart program.
