Though mining geologists often work more than a stone‘s throw from remote First Nations, young people living at two Northwestern Ontario reserves will have geologists coming right to their doorstep this month.

NAN declares position moving forward on the Ontario Government's proposed Bill 191

THUNDER BAY, ON, Aug. 13 /CNW/ - Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Grand Chief Stan Beardy jointly with NAN First Nations Chiefs, during a press conference in Thunder Bay today, declared their position regarding the Ontario Government's proposed Bill 191 (Far North Act) and their plans moving forward.

As the Chiefs of 25 First Nations are about to meet this week in Thunder Bay to determine if the fibre cable will be rolled out across the far north, two stories from the Associated Press highlight two broadband applications that could be supported over the fibre infrastructure. Watching movies online and meeting with other people online become possible with fibre infrastructure.

Lac Seul members to decide fate of government offer

The Government of Canada has offered Lac Seul First Nation $25 million for a century-old claim regarding illegal harvesting of timber from the community.

The offer came after a May 2009 court ruling in favour of Lac Seul.
