LEGAL EDUCATION & COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
Public Legal Education, provided by NALSC to the people of NAN, is an important aspect of the work of the Corporation in keeping people informed of new developments in law and policy, in familiarizing people with the western legal/justice system, and to ensure issues of importance to the citizens of NAN are disseminated and that people are more aware of their rights and obligations in the legal system. In order to fulfill the obligations of NALSC under the Legal Aid Services Act, and the policies of the Board of Directors, the Education & Communications Officer shall develop and deliver a comprehensive and easy to understand PLE program to the communities of NAN, the NAN schools and leadership of the communities by offering a variety of legal education materials, clinic days, outside resources, and other sources of information (a more detailed job description is available from NALSC).
QUALIFICATIONS:
• At a minimum, the Legal Education and Communications Officer must have a post secondary degree or diploma in law, education, political science or related field.
• Must be familiar with the NAN Communities, Aboriginal issues and legal issues.
• Excellent organizational, research, written and computer skills are required.
• Knowledge and experience working with web applications and desktop publishing programs a must.
• Ability to read, interpret – understand legal materials and issues.
• Ability to speak Ojibway or Cree an asset.
Location: Thunder Bay, with travel to remote communities and other locales
Salary: Commensurate with experience and budget limitations
