Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) is seeking a First Nations Student Support Program Coordinator to provide administration and support to the NAN Education Coordinator/Advisor and FNSSP project partners. Duties include providing administrative and financial support for the First Nations Student Support Program partners to facilitate timely and accurate planning and administration of projects managed under the First Nations Student Support Program.  The First Nations Student Support Program Coordinator also provides internal financial management support to the Education Coordinator through financial analysis reporting as well as capacity development support to First Nations Partners who require assistance in the preparation of financial reports and work plan reports.

Job Description
 First Nations Student Support Program Coordinator

SUMMARY:

The First Nations Student Support Program Coordinator provides administrative and financial support for the First Nations Student Support Program Partners to facilitate timely and accurate planning and administration of projects managed under the First Nations Student Support Program.  The First Nations Student Support Program Coordinator also provides internal financial management support to the Education Coordinator through financial analysis reporting as well as capacity development support to First Nations Partners who require assistance in the preparation of financial reports and work plan reports.

DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES:

1. Assist project partners with preparation of project budgets, cash flows and work plans.  

2. Assist the Education Coordinator/Advisor by monitoring budget-to-actual performance of FNSSP projects; provide the Education Coordinator/Advisor  with analysis reports to identify irregularities and/or strategies for corrective action.

3. Assist project partners with preparation of project claims, financial analysis, year-end and other project reports as required.

4. Prepare and process flow through funding agreements for FNSSP projects.

5. Develop and maintain an up-to-date information system/filing system for funding and flow-through arrangements.

6. Monitor FNSSP project reporting requirements and ensure deadlines are met.

7. Coordinate meetings, communication and correspondence as required within the FNSSP project.

8. Other related duties as assigned from time to time.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The First Nations Student Support Program Coordinator reports to the Education Coordinator/Advisor. The First Nations Student Support Program Coordinator is accountable to the Executive Director for overall performance.

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education - Degree/diploma in accounting, administration (or similar), or a combination of equivalent training and experience.

Experience - Experience in project administration and reporting (with emphasis on financial analysis and accounting)

Skills

  1. Knowledge of the broad spectrum of Education issues, programs and jurisdictions affecting First Nations in the NAN territory.
  2. Strong ability to read, interpret and prepare financial information and reports.
  3. Excellent organization, word processing and project administration skills.
  4. Ability to provide thorough, well composed reports and financial analysis within time limits.
  5. Ability to both complete and facilitate work plans.
  6. Fluency in a NAN dialect (Cree, Ojibway or Oji Cree) preferred
  7. Willing and able to travel.
