Aviation Career Training available with SLAAMB and Wasaya - October 30 DEADLINE

The Sioux Lookout Area Aboriginal Management Board, in collaboration with the Wasaya Group of Companies is proud to present this exciting training opportunity! Taking Flight: Northern Aboriginal Aviation Careers will train almost 40 individuals in several aviation industry positions. Training opportunities are available in the following positions: 

Pilot

Aircraft Maintenance Engineer

Management Trainee

Prop Shop Apprentice

Metal Shop Apprentice

Petroleum Apprentice

Flight Attendant

Pilot Positions:  There are 5 positions for people with no pilot qualifications at all, but who would like to become a pilot.  All training expenses and a living allowance will be paid to each participant in the program.  15-20 applicants will get the opportunity to attend a week-long pilot assessment camp in Manitoba.  At the end of the week 5 successful candidates will be selected to receive training to obtain a Commercial Pilot License!  All training expenses will be paid in addition to a weekly living allowance.

 

There are 5 other positions for applicants who already possess a Commercial Pilot License, but need assistance to obtain the IFR Rating, Float Endorsement or total time building.

 

Aircraft Maintenance Engineers:  There are 5 positions for applicants to become Aircraft Maintenance Engineers.  Participants will attend classes at Confederation College in Thunder Bay; training fees will be paid as well as, a weekly living allowance.

 

Management Trainees:

 Management Trainee positions are available in the following areas:

  • Wasaya Group Inc Management Trainee: The trainee will learn the various aspects of the Wasaya Group Corporate Office including providing clerical and technical support for WGI Senior Management.
  • Petroleum Management Trainee: The trainee, under the Manager's direction will learn to oversee all aspects of the operations at Wasaya Petroleum.
  • Prop Shop Management Trainee: The trainee, under the Manager's direction will learn to oversee all aspects of the operations at Wasaya Prop Shop.
  • Ground Operations Management Trainee: The trainee will learn to assist the Director of Ground Operations in all operational functions of the airline.
  • Marketing and Sales Systems Management Trainee: The trainee will assist in the development and implementation of various information systems at Wasaya Airways and the Wasaya Group of Companies as needed.
  • Administration Management Trainee: Through hands on experience, the trainee will learn all aspects of the Administration side of Wasaya's operations.
  • Station Management Trainee (Thunder Bay, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake, and Pickle Lake): Under the direction of the Station Manager, the trainee will learn to oversee all aspects of station operations.

Apprentice Trainees:

  • Prop Shop Apprentice training opportunity: The Prop Shop apprentice will learn to repair and overhaul aircraft propellers.
  • Metal Shop Apprentice training opportunity: The Metal Shop apprentice will perform duties relating to the inspection, repair, modification, installation and troubleshooting of sheet metal.
  • Petroleum Apprentice training opportunity: The apprentice will learn to provide aircraft fuel tank maintenance and proper loading of fuel onto the aircraft.
