NALSC is seeking to hire a full-time Special Projects Manager.
Ideally, the successful candidate will be a lawyer or similarly qualified professional in the field of Family/Child Welfare Law. Experience or knowledge of Aboriginal restorative justice practices (circles) or mediation experience will be considered an asset.
DESCRIPTION: The Special Projects Manager is responsible for managing, supervising and overseeing the Talking Together staff and Victim Witness Liaison and any new or other short term projects that arise in NALSC.
As the Special Projects Manager, reporting directly to the Executive Director, you will be responsible for:
• Overseeing the projects, with particular emphasis on the Talking Together Program and the Victim Witness Liaison Program;
• Supervising staff, managing budgets, participating on the NALSC Management team;
• Having knowledge and experience with Aboriginal justice issues and the current Euro-Canadian system, with particular emphasis on Child Welfare matters;
• Reporting to the Board of Directors and the Chiefs of NAN as required;
• Liaising with government and other stakeholders with respect to the administration of the Programs and to ensure that funding and project sustainability is preserved; and
• Providing advice and support to NAN community members and staff as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires:
• A post secondary degree in law, social work, mental health or related field with particular emphasis on Child Welfare Protection;
• The ability to work within the current justice system and to supervise staff and manage budgets;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• High level of proficiency in computer and management skills;
• Professionalism, discretion, sensitivity and understanding of the special needs/issues of our clients, and
• Good organizational skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced but collegial office environment.
Flexibility and good interpersonal skills are a must.
• Background in Victim/Witnesses and/or domestic violence would be an asset.
SALARY: Negotiable.
