Student Support Worker
The Oshki-Pimache-O-Win Education & Training Institute is an independent, innovative institution that offers post-secondary education and training programs to the people of Nishnawbe Aski Nation and other learners. We offer choice, accessibility, flexibility, opportunities and support services for our students. We are looking for a highly energetic, enthusiastic and dynamic individual for the position of Student Support Worker.
The Institute is inviting applications for a Student Support Worker to provide support services to students enrolled in the health and social service programs at Oshki-Pimache-O-Win Education & Training Institute. Under the direction of the Program & Student Services Coordinator, the successful candidate will also provide support services to all current and prospective students in general.
Required Qualifications:
• A diploma or degree in a related field, eg Counselling , Social Services.
• A minimum of three years related experience.
• Understand needs and challenges faced by First Nation students in remote locations
• Possess strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and be an effective team member.
• Hold a valid driver’s license.
• Fluency in either Ojibway or Cree would be an asset.
Responsibilities include (a complete job description is available on request):
• Assist potential applicants in the registration process.
• Provide support to the students registered when on-campus and during the distance delivery and independent learning phases.
• Provide logistical support when students are required for the on-campus sessions, including making arrangements for travel and accommodations.
• Be a liaison for the programs with the community educators and counselors in Nishnawbe Aski Nation and related organizations.
• Maintain student records
