Community Liaison & Student Recruitment Officer
The Oshki-Pimache-O-Win Education & Training Institute is an innovative, independent institution that offers post-secondary education and training programs to the people in Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) and other learners. These programs are primarily offered through distance delivery with minimal on-campus sessions in Thunder Bay. We offer choice, accessibility, flexibility, opportunities and support services for our students.
We are inviting applications for a Community Liaison & Student Recruitment Officer. Under the supervision of the Program & Student Service Coordinator, the successful candidate will actively promote the education and training programs in the NAN communities as necessary to achieve the enrollment requirements for our programs.
Responsibilities will also include:
- Establish positive relationships with prospective learners by promptly contacting new learners referred by community agencies, and by making timely responses to enquiries from prospective students.
- Provide counseling and information services to prospective students on career and educational options and choices to ensure students are recruited into programs appropriate to their interests and needs.
- Liaise with staff and colleagues in partner institutions to clarify program goals, expectations and requirements in order to assist interested individuals in making informed decisions regarding entry into programs.
- Communicate course and program requirements, application processes, and funding options and eligibility criteria to prospective students that will assist prospective students to make informed decisions regarding entry into programs.
- Facilitate student entry into programs, such as by scheduling required testing, and by arranging for local invigilators.
- Initiate student files for tracking and follow-up purposes.
Qualifications for this position include:
- Possess post secondary credentials in Business Administration;
- One to three years of Marketing, placement and/or career clarification/guidance experience;
- Excellent communication skills that include verbal, written, listening and public speaking;
- Organization and time management skills;
- Proficient computer skills;
- Experience in one or more of: student recruitment; administration of enrolment, registration or application processes; career counseling; adult education or training;
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with First Nations community leaders and sister agencies.
- Able to travel to remote First Nations;
- Hold a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle;
- Fluency in either Oji-Cree or Cree would be an asset.
