2 Summer Student Positions at KO Thunder Bay

The 2 student placements will work together to coordinate online Lands and Resources workshops and complete project reports. The interns are to maintain a training website and support video conferencing workshops. These positions are training and work experience programs funded in part by HRSDC.

Detailed Duties:
Lands & Resources GIS Technician
Develop GIS database to print maps, input data and provide training, help desk and mentorship to First Nation planners in remote communities by distance. Facilitate the Online Lands & Resources Planning Workshops including creating and maintaining the project website (www.lands.knet.ca), contact participants & speakers, arrange presenters and gather data.

Media Editor
Produce and edit video footage of community lands and resources events. Conduct interviews and post videos online. Create training material and mentor First Nation media artists and youth to post their own media. Create flash and other media products.

Training Objectives
Interns will develop knowledge and skills regarding: the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), mapping, video conferencing, video filming and editing, community-based research, government procedures, budgeting and First Nation procedures. Develop skills regarding training, mentoring, project management skills, preparing presentations, reports and analysis.

Qualifications
1. Intention to return to full-time education - post secondary preferred 
2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
3. Ability to work under minimal supervision
4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office
5. Demonstrated ability to learn technical applications
6. Ability to speak Oji-Cree, Ojibway or Cree is an asset.
7. Must be 29 years of age or under.
