SUMMARY
Reporting to the Clinical Services Coordinator (CSC), the Tele-ophthalmology Nurse will work the eHealth project coordinator to provide tele ophthalmology services to 4 of the First Nations served by KO eHealth.
This is a contract position which will require four community visits between October 2012 and March 2013.
The nurse will:
· With the eHealth project coordinator to identify four sites that are in need of services
· Will participate in training that will be provided for the ophthalmology camera.
· Work with the local Community Telemedicine Coordinators in the communities to coordinate scheduling of patients
· Keep accurate records of clients seen and ensure confidentiality of any documentation of client encounters
· Communicate with local health providers as needed regarding clients
· Provide written reports of activities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
a) Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
b) Experience working with First Nations communities in health or education
c) Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values, and of the geographical and health care challenges of First Nations in the Sioux Lookout district
d) Familiarity with health system in the district
e) Understanding of and interest in the use of communications and learning technologies in health care delivery
f) Excellent interpersonal skills
g) Basic computer skills (M/S Office Suite, E-mail, Internet)
h) Good oral and written communications skills
i) Able to work independently or as part of a team
j) Ability to speak Cree, Oji-Cree or Ojibway an asset
k) travel to remote communities required
