First Nations’ well-being gap getting worse

There is no more agonizing example of the mistaken belief that heaps of money alone will mend broken lives than the ongoing socio-economic catastrophe engulfing Canada’s aboriginals.
New Relationship Fund 2010-11 Core Consultation Capacity Funding Recipients
Keewaytinook Okimakanak First Nations (Deer Lake, Fort Severn, Keewaywin, McDowell Lake, North Spirit Lake and Poplar Hill) are successful receipents of their 2010-2011 projects for the New Relationship Fund's Core Consultation Capacity. The program will assist communities in building fundamental consultation and engagement capacity related to lands and resources.
There are 119 First Nations and 33 Métis communities receiving Core Consultation Capacity funding for 2010-2011.
Two submissions related to Aboriginal broadband connectivity are now posted online on the federal consultation on the Digital Economy Strategy website at http://de-en.gc.ca/home/.

Overview
In a few weeks we will gather at Winnipeg for our Annual General Assembly. Before that, it is my great honour to offer my first annual report to you the Chiefs and First Nation governments from across Canada.

KO Chiefs are gathering in Winnipeg this week to discuss ways in which the tribal council can better serve the grassroots. The Chiefs said they are overall pleased with the work of the tribal council and specifically praised K-Net, KOTM, KiHS, KORI and the Water Treatment Training Programme.
“Geordi has done a lot for the communities,” said one Chief.
However, they are discussing better ways of doing business for the organization.
