From Industry Canada's Broadband Canada: Connecting Rural Canadians website
March 29, 2010 - The Broadband Canada program has now completed its assessment of applications and has begun contacting applicants. 226 of the 570 applications received have been deemed eligible for funding. However, the total funding requested from those applications is over $500 million, and therefore not all eligible applications can be funded.
Projects will be selected based on best value and most households served, to maximize federal investment while reaching as many currently unserved/underserved households as possible.
Special emphasis will also be placed on applications that serve more remote parts of the country. These areas are represented by the following Geographic Service Areas (GSA): NL1030B; QC2480; QC2490; ON3590B; ON3595; MB4680; AB4870; AB4880; BC5910B; BC5930B; BC5950; BC5960; BC5970; BC5980; NT6110; NU6210.
All applicants will be notified within the coming weeks as to the status of their applications.
NOTE: ON3595 includes the NAN region that includes the NAN proposal to connect 25 remote First Nations via fibre cable.
