Press Release
MONTREAL, March 15 - The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) congratulates the 32 schools that qualified to attend the E-Spirit national gathering in Ottawa, May 10-13, 2010. This year E-Spirit celebrates ten years of continuous support to Aboriginal youth across Canada.
Aimed at Aboriginal youth in Grades 10 to 12, E-Spirit is a 16 week Internet-based competition that provides interactive business planning resources, online access to mentoring and extensive student networking opportunities, via the web and in person. This business plan competition is designed to increase students' awareness of entrepreneurial and business opportunities, management and business skills, e-commerce and technological capacities.
"E-Spirit targets students at the age when they're starting to think about career choices," said Wilson Neapew, National Director of BDC's Aboriginal Banking Unit. "It lets them know that starting your own business and being your own boss is a good, viable option. Teams might live in remote areas, but technology allows them to access research and advice from business experts and tap into markets well beyond their communities."
