The Sustainable Communities in the North Conference planning committee is currently searching for individuals or groups who are interested in providing a 30 minute presentation on alternative economic models.
Information: The Sustainable Communities in the North Conference will be hosted online through K-Net and at Confederation College and Lakehead University on the 25th and 26th of February, 2010. Video conferencing is being arranged in order to increase access to presenters and participants throughout the north. The focus of the conference is to create a forum for communities in Northern Ontario to come together to address the challenges to creating healthy, resilient communities that are particular to Northern Ontario. The conference is intended to be a legitimate counter point to other ‘official’ visions for northern sustainability. The planning committee would be pleased to have First Nation communities share and contribute throughout the planning and delivery of the conference.
In order to meet this commitment, we feel that community leaders and entrepreneurs must be sought out. One of the main focuses of the conferences is to develop new ways of thinking about economics and economic priorities in the North. Therefore, we are requesting that interested individuals or groups come forward with proposals for alternative economic models that may lead to a more stable and resilient region. Video conference presentations can be arranged for those who wish to present from their community.
Interested groups and individuals may submit a written summary of their proposal to Alex Boulet via email : aaboulet@lakeheadu.ca. Deadline for proposals is December 23rd, 2009. Successful candidates will be contacted.
Sincerely,
Alex Boulet
