Ojibway language instructors required in Thunder Bay's Lakehead Board of Education

The following teaching position(s) are available effective immediately.

SECONDARY OCCASIONAL TEACHERS TO TEACH NATIVE LANGUAGES: OJIBWE/OJIBWAY TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AT LAKEHEAD PUBLIC SCHOOLS’ FOUR HIGH SCHOOLS.

OCCASIONAL CONTINUING EDUCATION TEACHERS TO TEACH NATIVE LANGUAGES: OJIBWE/OJIBWAY TO ADULTS AT LAKEHEAD PUBLIC SCHOOLS’ ADULT EDUCATION CENTRE.

The Native Languages courses include oral communication, reading and writing; vocabulary, language conventions and grammar; use of information technology; and an appreciation of Native language and culture.

Application Procedure

Each candidate shall submit: [use as your checklist]

  • one covering letter indicating position(s) to which you are applying;
  • a résumé of qualifications and experience arranged in chronological sequence
  • two recent performance reviews or practice teaching reports, if no teaching experience (if applicable);
  • a photocopy of 2009 Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualification (if applicable)
  • a Reference Check Consent Form (available from Main Floor Reception, 2135 Sills Street or click Reference Check Consent Form)

Offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing a current, original Criminal Background Check and proof of a negative T.B. Skin Test.  These documents do not have to be included with your application.

Applicants who are fluent in Ojibwe/Ojibway but do not hold a teaching certificate are welcome to apply.
