BC First Nations Technology Council team visits KO-KNET in Sioux Lookout
The BC First Nations Summit Chiefs in Assembly established the First Nations Technology Council to develop a First Nations Technology plan for First Nations in British Columbia.
On Thursday evening, Sept 17, Frank LaValley, FNTC Manager and Sue Hanley, FNTC Coordinator flew into Sioux Lookout from their meetings with the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs in Winnipeg. They spent all day Friday and Saturday meeting with KO-KNET team members and learning about the KNET operation. They are interested in seeing how a similar operation can be established to support the First Nations across British Columbia.

- access distance education
- benefit from in-community e-health care
- develop business and marketing opportunities, and
- use technology to preserve Indigenous language and culture.
The First Nations Technology Council is working to assist BC First Nations in making this a reality in all communities by:
- advocating connectivity
- raising awareness of the benefits of technology
- working with government and industry on a First Nations Technology Plan - fostering technical capacity building
- leveraging technical training opportunities
- promoting career opportunities in new technology - encouraging the development of technical support
- working with centres of technical learning
- providing information on programs that support the installation of technology - promoting technology as a tool for revitalizing culture and languages
- encouraging the use of technology for the revitilization of culture and language
