EDUCATION COORDINATOR
On behalf of the Chiefs of Ontario, Education Unit, the Education Coordinator will serve as a management and technical resource to Ontario First Nations on areas of education, training and pre-school programs. This service is related to the provision of education support and advocacy services to the First Nations of Ontario. The Education Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director of the Chiefs of Ontario administration office.
Scope of Work:
The Education Coordinator will be expected to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate through other Education Unit staff, the major activities of the Chiefs of Ontario Education Unit. They establish the direction taken by the Chiefs of Ontario Education Unit in accordance with policies and terms of reference set out by the First Nation Education Coordination Unit and Chiefs Assemblies.
LOCATION: Toronto or Thunder Bay Offices
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
- Extensive knowledge of First Nations and organizations, as to their political roles, and structure;
- Knowledge of First Nation rights, self-government and current First Nation needs and goals in the education of First Nations people and education delivery;
- Knowledge of the Canadian political structure of all levels of government (federal/provincial/First Nations);
- Knowledge of current First Nations positions on education and training issues at community, regional and national levels as it pertains to education and training programs;
- Possess group facilitation and planning skills;
- Ability to research, analyze and summarize government initiatives and related legislation policies, reports, position papers and program services for First Nations;
- Ability to communicate accurate information on the First Nations political positions;
- Ability to communicate with personnel from all levels of government and First Nation organizations;
- Ability to work with First Nations and governments in the development of policies and strategies in the area of education and training, regionally and nationally.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidates must possess a degree or diploma in education or related discipline;
- This position will require an experienced individual who has a minimum five (5) years of comprehensive work experience and background in First Nation education and training services or delivery of such;
- This position will require excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;
- Ability to manage a limited program budget;
- Ability and willingness to travel a must;
- Ability to speak a First Nation language an asset;
- Candidate must be an independent worker, capable of working under limited supervision and able to work as a team member.
SALARY: Negotiable
