The Sioux Lookout Area Aboriginal Management Board under the Centre for Aboriginal Apprenticeship Research (CAAR) Project is seeking applicants for the following programs:

PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM: (Carpentry & Plumbing) 28 Weeks

This 28-week program offers communication, math and computer skills development, job readiness/employment skills training and introduces theory and practical hands-on training of the selected trade.  It is delivered through a combination of on-line learning (12 weeks) from your own community, in-classroom instruction (6 weeks) in Sioux Lookout, Safety Certificate training (2 weeks) in Sioux Lookout and a job placement of 240 hrs (8 weeks).  Location of the job placement can either be in Sioux Lookout, another urban area or in your community, providing supervision is available and acceptable to SLAAMB, Confederation College and MTCU. Upon successful completion of this program, you have an opportunity to sign up as an apprentice.  Placement hours obtained can be accredited to your apprenticeship hours at a later time. A training allowance of $ 735.00 per month is available bi-weekly and payable to those who attend every day and complete homework and assignments. Interested applicants are reminded that effort and commitment to complete homework and assignments will play a key role to your success in the program. If you feel you can apply and commit yourself for the full 28 weeks, please apply by August 6, 2009 as enrollment is limited.

The next intake of this program offered in partnership with Confederation College is tentatively scheduled to begin August 31, 2009.
