CYA Logo Contest

Introduction:

The Canadian Youth Assembly is a federal non-profit organization that has three major focuses: education, volunteerism and creating dialogue.

Through such programs as our Model Parliament we are educating youth about their local and national communities.  We are creating volunteer opportunities and making known those available through our work with institutions and other organizations and are providing enticing opportunities for those who have never been involved in their community before.  Finally, through creating a dialogue with youth and their government we are fostering a greater understanding and stronger relationship with one another.

Purpose:

To secure a digitally produced image, known as a logo, to represent the organization’s objective and morals. The logo will be used in all of the Canadian Youth Assembly’s correspondence, including website, forum, letterheads, emails, and promotional material.

Eligibility:

Prospective contestants may submit an image for selection provided they are Canadian citizens; whether permanent or temporary (this includes visa students).

Requisites:

The designed logo must be visually related to the Canadian Youth Assembly’s purpose.

The file format is required to be submitted as a .svg, .psd, or .eps file. A completed application form must accompany the image also.

Why these file types?

The reasons why the logo needs to be vector is that most JPGs, BMPs, GIFs and PNGs will be at 72 dpi, which is awful for printing.  They also cannot be resized without pixelation.  Take an image from somewhere, insert it in a blank document and enlarge the image to double its size.  Is it still clear?  GIF, JPG and BMP are also lossy formats and are compressed.

So to put it into a sentence: we need to be able to manipulate the size of the image without losing the quality.

How can I make these file types?

Illustrator, Inkscape (FREE), Freehand, and Photoshop (but ensure photoshop is set to create vector files!).

Deadline:

A deadline will be established at a later date. The winner will likely be unveiled in November.

Selection:

All eligible images will be compiled upon contest closing and judged by carefully by a qualified selection committee. Images will be solely be graded by design, colour, relevance to the organization’s objective, and efficiency. Contestant ages, areas of study, or background will not interfere with the logo selection. The chosen first place contestant will be contacted immediately upon selection.

Prizes:

Prizes will be announced at a later date.

Agreement:

When an image is submitted to the contest, the author gives all rights of/to the image to the Canadian Youth Assembly.
