Keewaytinook Okimakanak Education Services and the First Nations of Fort Severn, Keewaywin, Deer Lake, North Spirit Lake, Poplar Hill, and McDowell Lake, invites applications for the following two (2) positions:

  1. Keewaytinook Okimakanak KO) Off-Reserve Secondary School Services Support Worker

  2. KO Youth ICT Training & Employment Summer Program 2009

Position One
Keewaytinook Okimakanak KO) Off-Reserve Secondary School Services Support Worker

KO has an opening for an Off-Reserve Secondary School Services Support Worker. The Support Worker will be under the supervision of the KO Off-Reserve Secondary School Student Services Intake Coordinators.

Support Worker Duties:
Under the direction of the Coordinators the Student Services Support Worker will:

  • Maintain close contact with Students, Family, Counselors, Boarding Home Parents, Northern Nishnawbe Education Council, Ontario/Manitoba Provincial School Boards, and the Manitoba Indian Education Association staff to ensure student health, safety and academic success; and
  • Assist in providing student support services to all of KO’s off-reserve secondary school students, including, but not limited to transportation and all aspects of effective counseling. 

Education and Experience:

  • Post Secondary Training and extensive experience in the area of Education or Social Work preferred;
  • Knowledge of First Nations Culture;
  • Ability to speak one of our local dialects is an asset;
  • Excellent written and speaking skills;
  • A valid Driver’s License; and
  • Travel to KO Communities

Wages:   Based on Education and Experience.

Position Two
KO Youth ICT Training & Employment Summer Program 2009

KO has a Summer Employment opening through the Youth ICT Training & Employment Summer Program 2009. The successful applicant will be under the supervision of the Youth ICT Training & Employment Summer Program 2009 Coordinator.

The Program
The application process is open to First Nations and Inuit Secondary and Post-Secondary students aged 15 to 30 ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands, registered as full-time students during the preceding academic year and who intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.

The Program Goals

  • Help youth acquire skills by providing wage subsidies for their summer work experience;
  • Assist First Nations and Inuit Secondary and Post-Secondary students to prepare for future entry into the labour market by helping them to obtain summer employment; and
  • Enable First Nations and Inuit youth to earn wages to help finance their Post-Secondary Education.
