imagineNATIVE Film Festival Visits Sault Ste. Marie on March 11th

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – MARCH 9th, 2009): The imagineNATIVE Film and media arts tour will be stopping in Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday March 11th, 2008 as part of a four-community swing through Northern Ontario. Presentations will take place at Algoma University’s Great West Life Amphitheatre at 10 am and 1:30 pm for youth, with a feature presentation being held at 7:00pm. There is no charge to attend. Over 400 Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District students will be attending these screenings.

The youth screenings will feature several short films made for and by youth that are intended to be viewed by students from Grade Eight to University age. The evenings feature film is Older Than America starring Adam Beach of Law and Order and Flags of our Fathers fame. Older Than America will be preceded by a showing of the short film Palace, starring Lorne Cardinal.

The imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival is an international festival that celebrates the latest works by Aboriginal peoples on the forefront of innovation in film, video, radio, and new media. Each fall, the festival presents a selection of the most compelling and distinctive Aboriginal works from around the globe. The works accepted reflect the diversity of the world's Aboriginal nations and illustrate the vitality and excellence of our art and culture in contemporary media. imagineNATIVE is the largest festival of its kind in Canada and the world.

Each spring the imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival tours its Northern Ontario Tour to the Algoma, Manitoulin, Nipissing, Parry Sound and James Bay regions of Northern Ontario. imagineNATIVE presents the best youth works and hit feature films from its previous year, contributing to the artistic vibrancy of non-urban Aboriginal communities outside of Toronto and sharing works that reflect Aboriginal perspectives and stories.
