On December 16 and 17, Greg Rickford and his regional assistant, Anne Ayotte, visited the Keewaytinook Okimakanak (KO) offices in Balmertown and in Sioux Lookout to learn about the programs and services being delivered in the First Nations across the north. While in Sioux Lookout, a videoconference connection was established between the KO offices in Thunder Bay and Balmertown, so team members could share their work with Greg.
Greg also shared information about the work he is hoping to do across the region. He indicated his support and commitment to improving the telecom infrastructure so broadband applications such as the Keewaytinook Centre of Excellence for First Nation Water and Wastewater plant training and management, the Keewaytinook Internet High School, the KO Telemedicine service, the KO Research Institute and the Kuhkenah Network (K-Net) are able to continue to develop and expand their services that support employment opportunities across the region.
Greg is interested in exploring ways that his team can begin to communicate more effectively with people across the north using these communication tools.
