APTN Broadcasts the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards

Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) is once again a major sponsor and broadcaster of the annual Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Awards (APCMA), slated to be held this year at the MTS Centre and the McPhillips Street Station Casino, November 6 and 7, 2008. For two months, people from all across the country voted for their favourite Aboriginal singers, songwriters, bands, videos and more. The winners are being announced at two all-star galas. The APCMA’s kick off Thursday, November 6 with APTN First Night, the pre-awards gala. The evening will be hosted by Don Kelly, host of APTN’s hit comedy show Fish Out of Water, and Elaine Bomberry, producer of the APTN hit music series Rez Bluez, and will feature performances from up and coming Aboriginal entertainers and emerging artists. Attendance at APTN First Night is by invitation only at McPhillips Street Station Casino, but a LIVE broadcast of the show will be available exclusively on-line at www.aptn.ca starting at 7 pm CT.

The main, nationally televised event takes place 7 pm local time Friday, November 7 at the MTS Centre, with a Red Carpet at 6 pm. The APCMA’s will be hosted by Andrea Menard, star of APTN’s hit show Rabbit Fall and Lorne Cardinal of Corner Gas fame and features some of the top Aboriginal groups in the country. The show is being broadcast LIVE on APTN in Winnipeg on Shaw (channel 104), MTS (channel 14), Bell ExpressVu (channel 269) and APTN HD on Bell ExpressVu channel 808.

The APCMA’s are part of Manito Ahbee: A Festival For All Nations, which runs from Oct. 31 to November 9 and celebrates and promotes Aboriginal culture and music. This year’s celebration includes a Métis Celebration, International Competition Pow Wow, Education Conference, Music Fest and the Indigenous Marketplace & Trade Show.

APTN will also be on-site at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, taking part in the Manito Ahbee Trade Show and Competition Powwow, November 8 and 9. Throughout the two-day event, the APTN booth will feature various celebrity guests including Andrea Menard (Rabbit Fall, Moccasin Flats), David Wolfman (Cooking with the Wolfman), Cheryl McKenzie (APTN Contact host), APTN Friday Night Flick hosts Kyle and Janelle, APTN Kids host Cassidy, and others.
