The Whitefeather Forest Initiative (http://www.whitefeatherforest.com/) is developing a major training project. The Whitefeather Forest Initiative is a partnership-based Community Economic Renewal and Resource Stewardship initiative being led by Pikangikum First Nation.  It has attracted international attention.  An Executive Director is being sought to lead the training associated with the Whitefeather Forest Initiative (3-year contract).

In order to ensure that Aboriginal people will be able to gain employment with the Whitefeather Forest Initiative, a multi-year training project has been developed and is being implemented.  A dynamic leader with a commitment to supporting First Nation culture and economic renewal is being sought after to lead the training project.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education or a combination of education with related management and administrative experience
  • Several years of related and successful leadership and work experience in both financial and human resource management
  • An understanding of, or experience in employment and training programs ideally delivered in rural and remote locations
  • Intimate knowledge of Anishinabe culture, language and experience working in First Nation communities
  • Aware and sensitive to, and to demonstrate knowledge of the needs of Anishinabe people and their aspirations and to be an effective role model
  • Ability to champion the Whitefeather Forest Initiative’s mission, vision and values with all relevant internal and external parties
  • Ability to provide solid advice and counsel to the Board with respect to issues facing the successful delivery of the Training Initiative project
  • The ability to speak, read, and translate the local Ojibway dialect is considered a major asset
  • Responsible for  developing a support team to operationalize the project
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficiency with computer software

Location: Pikangikum First Nation, Ontario and Red Lake, Ontario with a commitment to relocate to a fly-in community
Salary:  Salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
