AKN partners celebrate grand opening of their new safe water service in 21 First Nations

Anishinaabeg Kakenwaydemiwatch Nepi (AKN) celebrated their grand opening today by bringing together all the partners involved in making this unique Safe Water Operations program a success!

Partners in this innovative initiative include:

  • Keewaytinook Okimakanak (KO - Balmertown)
  • Anishinaabeg of Kabapikotawangag (AKRC - Kenora)
  • Pwi-Di-Goo-Zing Ne-Yaa-Zhing Advisory Services (Fort Frances)
  • Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA)
  • Indian and Northern Affairs Canada

Keewaytinook Okimakanak in partnership with the AKRC Resource Council received INAC approval to proceed with their proposed Safe Water Operations Program (SWOP).

AKN is a not for profit corporation set up in response to the Safe Water Operations Program (SWOP) instituted by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada in 2006.

AKN is an organization created through a unique partnership arrangement between three Tribal Councils in northwestern Ontario. Our founding members are: Pwi-Di-Goo-Zing Ne-Yaa-Zhing Advisory Services (Fort Frances), Keewaytinook Okimakanak (KO - Balmertown), Anishinaabeg of Kabapikotawangag (AKRC - Kenora).
