June 21 - National Aboriginal Day

On June 21st, join thousands of people across the country in celebrating National Aboriginal Day. This very special day celebrates the unique heritage, cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and M=E9tis peoples in Canada.

Numerous events are planned across the country, including traditional and contemporary food tasting, dancing, singing, games, entertainment and more.  For a complete listing of activities planned in your region, please visit Indian and Northern Affairs Canada=92s website at www.inac-ainc.gc.ca/nad.

On June 20th at Les Terrasses de la Chaudi=E8re, an opening ceremony will start off at 11 a.m. (ET) with an artistic performance by the students of the Aqsarniik School from the Llinniarvik community of Nunavut, broadcast live via video conference. This event will be held in the three official languages of Nunavut: English, French and Inuktitut. There will also be a shuttle bus to the Canadian Museum of Civilization for a lunch time concert, a lacrosse game, a bannock bake-off and an awards ceremony with a light snack. Also, join in the educational celebrations beginning on Friday, June 20th, at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. The festivities will continue at Victoria Island with evening performances starting Friday evening and ending Sunday June 22nd.=20
