Race Relations Week opens Friday March 21 in Sioux Lookout. The opening event is Let’s Walk Together: Gamamawibimosemin: A Good Friday Walk for Building Right Relations. We will meet at 12 noon at the Nishnawbe Gamik Friendship Centre. People may want to bring symbols that for them represent hope, healing, reconciliation, right relationships. Young people at the Friendship Centre have been working hard to prepare signs to represent the Grandfather teachings for people to carry. There will be stops along the way for prayers, readings, someone to say a few words. We will light a candle and place a flower at the stops. Stops include Association for Community Living, the Spring at First and Front, Centennial Park, SLARC office and Youth Centre, Sacred Heart Church, St Mary’s Church, St. Andrew’s Church. People can bring a stone to place in Centennial Park to mark the intention to establish a monument to Right Relations in the park. Refreshments will be available at Nishnawbe Gamik Friendship Centre after the walk.
Everyone is welcome.
