North Eco-Conference 2008 - Sustainable Strategies for Northern Communities
March 18-19, 2008

Thunder Bay, Ontario: North America's leading Sustainability Publication Green@ Work magazine announced today that it will partner with Confederation College in Northwestern Ontario, Canada and regional environmental organizations to host the region's first Eco-Conference in March 2008. Green@Work. spokesman and Publisher Dennis Walsh stated that the College was chosen as the venue because of its award winning energy reduction efforts and its' historical support of business and economic development in the North." Walsh went on to say," Our Magazine is a major partner of the Second Nature program in the U.S which was announced by former President Bill Clinton at this years' GreenBuild 2007 Conference in Atlanta.

The Second Nature program is all about greening campuses so we wanted to pick a well respected educational institution for the event and since we have decided to make Thunder Bay the home of our new Canadian Bureau, Confederation College was a natural choice. Walsh went further to highlight the basic goal of the historic event. "The Green North Eco-Conference 2008 will emphasize the establishment of a regional plan that would emphasize the value of green economic development and share best practices already underway in northern communities. We have the capacity and the ability to create a remarkably different economy in the north, one that can restore eco-systems and protect the region's environment while bringing forth innovation, meaningful employment opportunities and true sustainable prosperity."

The conference will target three main groups for attendance, Mayors, Aboriginal leaders, and municipal managers, business and industry as well as the general public and students. The conference will produce national expert speakers who will provide current information in regard to sustainable city planning and green economic development. The conference organizers will also be providing an "Antiques Road Show" style session that will allow regional business owners to meet with experts who will review their products and services and offer advice about green branding and the lucrative green economy.

Patricia Lang, President of Confederation College is excited about the conference and remarked, "We are proud to be hosting this great event, bringing community leaders and concerned business people together to Thunder Bay to talk about sustainable communities and green economic development.”
