ASSEMBLY OF FIRST NATIONS BULLETIN - A Communiqué from National Chief Phil Fontaine
November 6, 2007
The Assembly of First Nations issues regular updates on the National Chief’s activities and work underway at the national office. More information can be found on the AFN’s website at www.afn.ca.
One X One is a charitable organization that aims to improve the well-being of children. The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) and One x One have identified school nutrition strategies as a means to improve the health of First Nation’s Children. However there is no information available about what communities are already doing to promote nutrition in schools. The Chief’s Committee on Health recently approved an environmental scan to gain a greater understanding about the scope of school nutrition programs for First Nations students.
The environmental scan will ask schools principals to answer approximately 10 questions either by phone, fax or via online survey tool. The dateline for submission is Thursday, November 15, 2007. All respondents will be entered into a draw to win: A special school meal pilot program package! Click here for a PDF copy of the one page questionnaire / submission.
The information will be kept confidential and the name of your school will never be identified. A copy of the survey is attached. The scan will be overseen by Elisa Levi and Melanie Morningstar at the AFN and will follow the principles of OCAP (Ownership, Control, Access and Possession).
