First newsletter from National Centre for First Nations Governance highlights successes

National Centre for First Nations Governance Distributes First Quarterly Newsletter

Find out what is going on in our First Nation communities nationwide in the development of self-governance. The National Centre for First Nations Governance (http://www.fngovernance.org/) brings to you the first ever ‘Centre Quarterly’ newsletter (Fall 2007) providing you with an in-depth look at nationwide progress.

We bring you to British Columbia whereby selected First Nation communities are assessing their governance capacity with the objective of identifying strategic steps that can be taken to advance their governance objectives.

We also go into an Alberta First Nation that has implemented an inherent rights strategy into their governance structure and with that we find out about their successes and opportunities.

In Ontario, we explore a strategy underway by the Robinson-Huron Treaty area to gain control of their fisheries and in the Atlantic we take a look at how the eight Chiefs of the Gespe’gewa’gi District are moving forward to reaffirm their title to their traditional land.
