Nishnawbe Aski Nation First Nation leaders Invitation to Community Safety Forum

January 11, 2013

Re: Invitation to Community Safety Forum

Our community does not feel safe. Recent disturbing allegations including public reports of a racially motivated attack on a young woman and an investigation of police misconduct involving our youth have added to the anxiety felt by parents and students alike.

Now more than ever it is essential that we make an effort to work with leaders of all communities to restore public confidence and a sense of safety.

Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN), in partnership with others, including the Thunder Bay Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police, will host a Community Safety Forum (see the attached poster).

The Forum will provide an opportunity for public education on the relevant police investigative procedures, encourage dialogue on current concerns and conclude with a discussion regarding next steps aimed at ensuring our safety.

Date: Tuesday, January 15, 2013

Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm - forum
8:00 pm - 9:00 pm - refreshments to be served

Location: Thunder Bay Community Auditorium
1 Paul Shaffer Drive, Thunder Bay, ON

The forum is open to students and families, Leadership, First Nations and Aboriginal organizations, and residents of Thunder Bay.
