Orpah McKenzie, KOTM eHealth Director, and Tina Kakepetum-Schultz, KOTM Assistant Director, recently presented a report at the Canadian Rural Health Research conference in Levis, Quebec. The report is based on analysis of our KO-KNET survey by Crystal Kakekaspan and Kerri Gibson. North Spirit Lake Chief Rita Thompson accompanied Orpah and Tina at the Quebec conference and supported their presentation.

You can access a copy of the report - "Perspectives of Rural and Remote First Nation Community Members Toward Telehealth Services: The Case of Keewaytinook Okimakanak Telemedicine (KOTM)" - from our Presentations page.

Also this month we are happy to share the news that our research partnership was awarded a major grant this year from SSHRC - the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. See the media release on the SSHRC website:

Our new project, which we will name First Nations Innovation: Enterprise ICT Development, was awarded $496,380 to conduct research and outreach activities for the next five years, to 2017. In addition to the SSHRC funding, the project partners - Keewaytinook Okimakanak, the First Nations Education Council, and Atlantic Canada's First Nation Help Desk - are all making significant in-kind contributions over the five years that will support community engagement and involvement in the research.
