Matawa First Nations Management Crisis Task Force Seeks Volunteers

Volunteers Sought for Matawa Regional Crisis Task Force

Thursday 15 December 2005: The Matawa First Nations Management Health and Social Special Projects department is appealing for volunteers from across Northwestern Ontario to join a Regional Crisis Task Force that is being established to provide vital assistance to Matawa First Nation communities located to the north of Thunder Bay,.

The Regional Crisis Task Force will provide essential support to families living in Matawa First Nation communities through family home visits, spending time with children, intervention, mentoring and working on community social projects. In total, 18 volunteers are needed. Each team is comprised of 9 people who will stay in the community for up to five days as each Critical Incident occurs.

The Regional Crisis Task Force is the latest initiative from Matawa First Nations Management Health and Social Special Projects that coordinates both health and social related programs and services in conjunction with the Matawa Health Task Group to eight (8) First Nations which include; Aroland, Constance Lake, Eabametoong, Hornepayne, Marten Falls, Neskantaga, Nibinimik, and Webequie. 

No previous experience is required and training will be provided to volunteers. All travel and associated expenses will be paid by First Nation Inuit Health Branch of Medical Services.
