Wawatay Radio launches national youth radio show on Dec 3, 2005

Wawatay Radio is launching a national radio program on December 3 from 10:00am to 2:00pm(CST). National Chief Phil Fontaine will be our in-studio guest in Sioux Lookout. Jon Kim Bell, Director of the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation, will participate in some portions of the program, as well as other guests from across the country.

The overall theme and purpose of this program is to connect Aboriginal youth with each other and the First Nations leadership. In particular we hope to:

  • connect youth interactively with their local,regional and national leaders;
  • use national-feed radio and ICT's to create an awareness among youth of contemporary and historical issues that affect them;
  • provide a forum where youth meet First Nations professionals who are successful in their chosen fields/careers; and
  • provide a forum where FNs leaders and professionals can support and nurture youth through the medium of national broadcast/webcast forums.
We would like Aboriginal youth to listen in and so are doing promos for the show to reach them all this coming week. Future shows will be co-hosted by youth groups in universities, Friendship Centres and in First Nations communities. Eventually we hope to move the shows to a web-based format, as well as on radio, so there will be a national online presence for the program.
