Sign Language: Talking Hands - Communication Series presented by Sheila Wilson, Sign Language Instructor
Every Tuesday in April 2005.
Keewaytinook Okimakanak Telehealth/KORI hosted the first of four sign language presentations on April 5, 2005 called:
Sign Language: Talking Hands - Communication Series presented by Sheila Wilson, Sign Language Instructor
Sheila presented to a group of First Nation communities and Balmertown using the video conferencing technology from the Thunder Bay KO Research Institute office. The sites involved were Fort Severn, Wapekeka, Keewaywin, North Spirit Lake, and Balmertown.
As we know sign language is the form of communication that is used by people with hearing difficulties. In our northern communities, people with these difficulties do not have the resources and peers to be able to learn and communicate properly. Providing video conferencing sessions on the basics of sign language is a positive and welcomed step towards bringing a valuable source of communication for the hearing impaired.
