Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School's Senior Boys Volleyball team wins Thunder Bay championship!!

It was a big night for volleyball fans in Thunder Bay lastnight as the DFC Thunderhawks went on to defeat the Westgate Tigers in SSSAA Senior Boys Volleyball Championship action. After suffering two straight losses the Hawks came back from the brink of losing this match-up to win three exciting sets and Thunder Bay’s High School volleyball championship. With a lot of cheering fans in attendance, the DFC Thunderhawks celebrated their third championship in a row. The team and coaching staff are all from various communities in the north and this championship win will be celebrated by all. Congratulations Hawks!!

And now a few words from the coach...

"The DFC Thunderhawks captured their 3rd straight championship title in 2004. The Thunderhawks made a big comeback from a 2-0 deficit in the best out of 5 match up against the Westgate Tigers. The Thunderhawks experienced players led the team from the brink of elimination as they trailed the Westgate Tigers 23-24 in game three and rallied back to win 26-24. This marked the turning point of the championship. As the head coach for DFC Thunderhawks, although we have won the championship the past three years, it is amazing to see how each year we are able to add new and experienced players to contribute to overcome the new challenges and learning experiences in order to be a competitive team in this City League. For this year’s championship run, we had 4 returning players and welcomed 4 new rookies that made this team successful. Special thanks to all the participating teams that played their hearts out in this years playoffs. We are now facing the Beaver Brae Bronco’s in Kenora this weekend for the regional finals, with the winning team going ahead to the all-Ontario Provincials. So it’s not over yet for the Thunderhawks. On behalf of the DFC Thunderhawks, we thank you all for your support, Kitchi Meegwetch "  Kevin Kakegamic-  Tuesday, November 15, 2004.
