Trust Fund on Indigenous Issues relating to the Second International Decade of the World's Indigenous People

Overview

The Trust Fund for the Second Decade was established to promote, support and implement the objectives of the Decade. The Fund will give priority to projects concerning the main areas of the Second Decade: culture, education, health, human Rights, the environment and social and economic development. The Advisory Group for the Trust Fund for the Second Decade consists of members of the Permanent Forum’s Bureau.

Indigenous organizations or organizations working for indigenous peoples can apply for small grants from the Trust Fund. Guidelines to applicants for the Fund will be available when the call opens every year.

It is expected that the Fund will mainly be used for small grants projects with a budget for up to 10,000 US$ covering one year’s expenses.

2012 Call for Proposals

Call for project proposals to be presented for the 2012 round will open from 1 July 2011 and end 1 September 2011. Project proposals will not be accepted before or after the indicated dates. Mandatory application form must be used and all requested information must be presented in order to come into consideration for funding. 2011 Grants

On 12 to 13 May 2011, the Bureau of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, acting as the Advisory Group for the projects for the Second International Decade of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, met to consider projects proposals received by the Secretariat for funding from the Trust Fund on Indigenous Issues Small Grants Programme in accordance with General Assembly resolution 59/174 of 22 December 2004.

From 2006 to 2011, the Trust Fund on Indigenous Issues has granted a total of 102 projects with a predominance of projects in Asia, Africa, Central and Eastern Europe, Russian Federation, Central Asia and Transcaucasia and Central and South America and the Caribbean.

The grantees will be contacted directly by the Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues shortly. The following projects were selected for funding in the 2011 round:
